Mexican software development companies don't show up in Google and ChatGPT

A client in Mexico needs someone to build their software. They open Google and type “software development company”, or they just ask ChatGPT who to hire. Your company, does it show up in that answer?

We wanted to know how the whole sector does with that question, so we measured 626 Mexican software development companies, one by one, in Google and in ChatGPT. The picture is uncomfortable. 509 don’t appear in either one.

The podium is almost empty

Of the 626, only 117 appear where their client starts looking. The rest, 81%, aren’t there at that moment. And it’s not that they rank poorly, it’s that they don’t show up at all. Several of the 117 that do barely peek through. Almost a hundred of them score below 10 points out of 100.

Being in Google helps, but it doesn’t guarantee you’re in ChatGPT

The most revealing part isn’t how many appear, but where. In Google, 32 companies show up. In ChatGPT, 91. And in both at once, only 6. They’re two almost separate lists. Ranking well in the search engine doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the AI’s answer, and the other way around too. They’re two different games that need to connect, and most of the sector isn’t playing either one.

AI rewards your site, but it also rewards where you’re cited

When you look at who wins in ChatGPT, something counterintuitive shows up. Several of the companies the AI recommends most have poor, single-page websites. The AI doesn’t visit your site and decide you’re good. It names you because it found you cited in the sources it reads. Visibility in AI doesn’t come 100% from your site, it also comes from where you’re mentioned.

Being established doesn’t protect you

You might think this is a small-company or new-company thing. It isn’t. Several large, well-known firms in the sector don’t appear in these lists, while much smaller companies hold the top spots in AI. The place at the top isn’t taken by the usual names. It’s open, and today it’s won with signals you can build, not with years in business.

That’s why we measured it, and put it in plain sight

We published all of it in the Visibility Index, Mexico edition. The 626 companies, which ones appear and in which channel, the full method and the cutoff date. It doesn’t measure quality or say who’s better. It measures something simpler and more uncomfortable, who shows up when their client searches and who doesn’t.

You can see the full ranking and look for your company in the Mexico Visibility Index. If you don’t find it, you already know which group it’s in.
